Well, its been an interesting few months, making the transition from Ottawa back to Toronto. Things have been good but its been difficult to get back into the groove. I'm back at Life Drawing these days and I think its been good for me. Most of the drawings ive been doing have not been successful but here are a few of the better ones. I can't promise that I'll be posing more often but I will try.
Hey folks, for the last year I've been working as a Junior FX animator in Ottawa for Mercury Filmworks. I've met some great people there and some amazingly talented artists, but all good things must come to an end and without change there is no growth. I've taken an offer to work with Guru Studios in Toronto as a lead FX animator. I'll miss the easy going life in Ottawa as well as the people I've come to know and love there but I'm so damn pumped to be heading back to Toronto to work with Guru and the talent that their studio holds. Until next time, enjoy the artwork.
Some work in progress steps. You can see how much the painting changes from the initial sketch but the basic structure of the image is still intact. I should have scanned in the thumbnail to show how true I stuck to it--maybe ill add it for the final so stay tuned.
Ive been working my summer away lately and its definitely not cool. Freelance was bone dry in the winter and as soon as it gets nice out- BAM, swamped. Very little time to do personal work, very little time to enjoy the sun. Finally things are clearing up and I had a little time to paint this last night, I hope you all enjoy.
This one was tough because I had never painted ocean waves before this but my FX animation experience came in handy. Not a huge fan of how the characters came out but I had to move on due to deadline restrictions.
A little more of this preliminary work - people are always asking to see this stuff so here it is. Its important to develop a systematic approach to your work so you become more efficient - something Im still trying to figure out admittedly. This one was a little tricky because of all the detail in the room...instead of going to a line drawing, I did a quick color pass and did a draw-over to add a little more character to the room. It seemed to work pretty well. Thoughts are always welcome.
I guess this is how Im doing these illustrations from tonal to line drawing, and color key. Currently working on finishing up this piece which I imagine will change quite a bit from what you see now. Stay Tuned.
This will be the last bus sketch that I post here. Not because I'm ceasing to draw these things but because Im no longer taking the bus(f*yea!) plus I think im making progress with this story and I don't like spoilers. I hope you've enjoyed these for the past couple months, let me know what you think!
This week the roads were terrible, Ottawa got dumped on hard with snow. As a result I spent about 3 or 4 hours commuting longer than usual that let me finish this out early. Probably my fav drawing since I started doing this back in November.
